Forum on renewable energy development in Mekong countries

The Energy and Environment Partnership with the Mekong Region (EEP Mekong) is organising its third annual regional forum to be held on the 20th November 2012 at Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The theme of the forum this year is to serve as a platform for developers, decision makers from EEP Mekong partner governments and other stakeholders to discuss barriers and solutions for developing renewable energy in the Mekong Region.

The presentations will be on Renewable Energy policy and targets in the Mekong Region, elements of country specific policies, case studies, and a presentation on development of renewable energy in Myanmar. On the 21st of November will be a site visit to Lam Som Sugar Factory, featuring ethanol production, co-generation (heat & electricity), andbiogas production.

Vietnam Gains $200 Million in World Bank Funding for Clean Water

Vietnam secured $200 million in financing to help fund the government’s rural clean water and sanitation program in eight provinces in the Red River delta, the World Bank said.

The International Development Association credit approved by the World Bank’s board of executive directors in Washington, D.C., will aid in plans to provide safer potable water for 1.7 million people and improved sanitation for 650,000 residents in the provinces over the 2013-2017 period, it said.

The funds will be disbursed via a new type of financing called Program for Results that links the aid to demonstrable results, the bank said. It will be the first in the rural water and improved sewage sector, it said.

VIETNAM-VIETWATER’ 2012 Exhibition - Hanoi: A French delegation of 16 companies

From 1-7 November 2012, UBIFRANCE is organizing a joint visit by businesses from the water sector to Cambodia and Vietnam. These businesses hope in this way to be able to develop durable commercial, industrial or technological partnerships with local actors. The mission starts in Phnom Penh and will conclude in Hanoi at the “Pavillon France” in the Vietwater ‘2012 Exhibition room.

France is also the leader producer of equipment for water treatment. In addition, the French model of public/private partnership for water management is widely adopted abroad.

Moreover, on 6 November at 14.00 in the exhibition room, ALTEREO and SCE will organize a seminar to present two projects financed by France in Vietnam: (1) a feasibility study for the second phase of the project “Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Sanitation” and (2) Implementation of a Geographical Information System for the technical and heritage-focused management of the drinking water network in Nha Trang.
