Big C’s VND11 bil. on solar power

Supermarket chain Big C and Schneider Electric Vietnam have inked a deal for cooperation in a renewable energy project ‘Solar Photovoltaic Power 212 kWp’ worth more than VND11 billion.

Under the deal, a solar power system of 212 kilowatts-peak will be installed on the roof of the car park of Big C supermarket/shopping center in Di An, Binh Duong, which is currently under construction and will come into business in early 2013.

The system will be directly connected to the grid of the shopping center. Each year, it will produce about 230,000 kWh of electricity, meeting 7% of the total power demand of the center, and reduce emission of carbon dioxide by over 150 tons.

The entire project will be covered by a five-year warranty, while the warranty period will be ten years for the photovoltaic module system and 25 years for all electrical equipment. Maintenance work will be carried out once every two months for five years.

This is the first supermarket/shopping center in Vietnam to deploy a national-scale solar power project with a total investment of over VND11 billion and a payback period of ten years.

It is also the first commercial center in the country to apply the U.S. green building rating system LEED and the environmental assessment standards LOTUS of Vietnam. With other green technologies applied, Big C Di An will cut power consumption by over 30% compared to a conventional shopping mall.

Laurent Zecri, CEO of Big C Vietnam, said the use of solar power would help reduce the load on the national grid and would be an effective measure to protect the environment.

French businesses encouraged to invest in Vietnam

(VOV) -France is encouraging its small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to invest in Vietnam and other countries in Southeast Asia (SEA).

This was confirmed by the French Minister of Foreign Trade, Mrs Nicole Bricq, at a seminar held in Paris on October 25. 

She said a French delegation will visit Vietnam and some other nations in April 2013 to explore the potential of the Southeast Asian market.

Participants in the seminar agreed that SEA is a favourable destination for business investment as it is abundant in high quality but cheap human resources.

Some considered Vietnam to be economically dynamic as a future dragon of ASEAN.

Marc Cagnard, Director of France’s trade promotion agency in Vietnam (Ubifrance Vietnam) said Vietnam is a great potential market for trade exchange based on its fast industrialization and strong consumer power.

He said some 300 French businesses are cooperating with 400 Vietnamese partners in the fields of industry, trade, science and technology farm production and food processing. 

Nguyen Canh Cuong, a Commercial Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy in France said Ubifrance is helping Vietnam improve its investment environment so that it will soon become an attractive and reliable destination for foreign investors.

However, he said Vietnam is not yet placed at the top of the French list of priorities in SEA.

VIETNAM-VIETWATER’ 2012 Exhibition - Hanoi: A French delegation of 16 companies

From 1-7 November 2012, UBIFRANCE is organizing a joint visit by businesses from the water sector to Cambodia and Vietnam. Moreover, on 6 November at 14.00 in the exhibition room, ALTEREO and SCE will organize a seminar to present two projects financed by France in Vietnam: (1) a feasibility study for the second phase of the project “Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Sanitation” and (2) Implementation of a Geographical Information System for the technical and heritage-focused management of the drinking water network in Nha Trang.
